Customer Rating: Summary: Tengen Toppa Gurren-Lagann Comment: I bought this for my boyfriend for X-mas. He completly loved it, no complaints. The way it opens is particularly his favorite.
Customer Rating: Summary: "JUST WHO THE HELL DO YOU THINK I AM!?" Comment: From the masterminds who brought us Neon Genesis Evangelion and Fooly Cooly comes one of the years biggest, craziest, and most hyper anime titles to reach the U.S. this year. Thus far the plot isn't too intricate, with your stereotypical shonen heroes and sequences recycled into a new setting. But that's not all there is to it. The characters personalities are so fiery and passionate that you'll already feel connected to them by the end of this boxset. Personally, the most impressive thing about this show is the look of it. All the variety of colors they used to illustrate the night scenes or the moments when they were underground captured the atmosphere perfectly. Well except for episode 4 where the animation looked really stiff. But the music was engaging, the battles were well choreographed, and the story even threw in some shocking plot developments near the end. The LED drill light is just as cool as I'd hoped too, however there are a couple reasons I docked this set a star. Firstly, while I liked the three main characters and maybe even a couple secondary ones, alot of the other tag-along characters seemed pointless and annoying. Also, all the "manly" speeches made by Kamina became torture after about episode 2. They were funny at first but enough was enough. Overall I'd recommend this series to those who like giant mechas, bikini wearing babes, and epic battles screaming with energy.
Customer Rating: Summary: Not often i'll spend 70 bucks for 9 episodes of anime, but Gainax makes me. Comment: Only other time I payed this much for anime was FLCL (6 episodes, 80 bucks)
Now I've payed 70 for the first 9 episodes of Gurren Lagann, having bought the first, sub-only release, and now rebuying for this. But I'm not buying the new releases for the dub. I'm buying them for three reasons. First, I wanted the artbox. It opens by lifting the top side, which open's the Gurren's mouth. The second is the special features. The first releases only had the show, nothing more, and while the features on this are still pretty light, they're better than nothing. Finally, the Core Drill. While not as nice looking as the drill that comes with the Revoltech figure (it's a LITTLE stubby), it evens out in the fact that when you flip a switch, the golden drill glows green with spiral energy. Now, I can go out in public, flip the switch, point into the air and shout "MINE IS THE DRILL THAT SHALL PIERCE THE HEAVENS! ORE O DARE DATTO OMOTE YAGERU?"
Customer Rating: Summary: Best Anime since "Evangelion" Comment: Studio GAINAX, the creators of "FLCL", "Gunbuster" and the infamous "Neon Genesis Evangelion" have another brilliant piece of work on their hands. While Evangelion subverted the convetions of the giant robot genre, this series embraces the cliches and puts a whole new spin on them. The animation is beautiful (aside from episode 4) and remains so for the duration of the series. I highly recommend this show to fans of Mecha Anime, Evangelion and the other works of GAINAX. It may not be too sophisticated, but it has a lot of spirit and is generally just plan fun.
Customer Rating: Summary: Epic Show...Epic FAIL Dub! Comment: Everyone that has watched Gurren Lagann knows that it is Epic and kicks all common sense to the curb. Its an amazingly unique show much like that of FLCL in the sense of lots of satire. If you can't stand reading subs then you shouldn't think twice about buying this. But if you're fine with subs go buy the entire series subbed right now! Now if you're one of the people who own the sub and are like HEY I WANNA GET THE DUBBED SO I DONT HAVE TO READ AND STUFF...well put that out of your mind because the dub is atrocious, or at least to me since I watched the series with the japanese dialogue...which was EPIC as well. The dub is lacking more or less in deep voices...You can't have a Kamina or adult Simon yelling "WHO THE HELL DO YOU THINK I AM" in a semi high pitched trunks voice...sorry it doesn't work, or at least not for me...!

In his sky-less cavern of a village Simon toils daily, drilling holes to expand his stifling little world until one day he makes an extraordinary discovery, a small glowing drill-bit and the man-sized mecha it activates. Before he can give it a second thought Simon is dragged into a plot to break through to the surface by the local gang leader Kamina, only to have the ceiling come crashing down on top of them under the weight of a giant monster! It somehow falls onto the boisterous Kamina and the cowardly Simon to defend their village but once they defeat the monster what awaits the duo on the surface world? Get ready for buxom babes, beastmen, and giant mecha as only GAINAX can provide them! BUST THROUGH THE HEAVENS WITH YOUR SOUL, GURREN LAGANN!
