Summary: Needed balance
Comment: Though this band is super tight in sound this album lacked balance. They are what some would call mountain music and the band runs with it. However 90% of mountain music is heal stompin' up beat fast tempo. Rolling banjo what have you. This album is good but only 3 songs are up tempo.

Summary: So what if they used drums in this album?
Comment: Ok, so what if they used drums on the tracks in this album? Who cares if they sound more "modern"? The fact remains they have the song writing talent that allows them to sound original no matter what instrument is there or not - and I am rating this album a full 5 because they rocked the house yet again. Song for song, "Big Iron World" is still their best album but that doesn't mean you should sell this one short. 13 tracks and most of them are memorable. My personal favorites are "Alabama High Test", and the cut about a crime that happened in a "Motel in Memphis".

Summary: bluegrass/folk done well
Comment: Bluegrass/folk style, clever lyrics, but don't confuse them with the Band, Dead or even Dylan. They need more instrumental stretches, because they are really skillful players.

Summary: Even better than their first,...
Comment: Flippin great! I bought their first album and loved it and now I like this one even better. These guys are skilled musicians and the singer sounds kinda like Bob Dylan except you can understand him. Trust me, this album won't disappoint.

Summary: Nothing to crow about
Comment: Though I love this type of country music I found Tennessee Pusher to be repetitive and way too druggy. I would play maybe two of these songs again.
Not worth the money.

Editorial Reviews:

Old Crow Medicine Show release in 2008 their third Nettwerk album called Tennessee Pusher. Produced by the legendary Don Was (Bob Dylan, Bonnie Raitt, the Rolling Stones), the album features the first single "Caroline" along with 11 other Old Crow originals and an American standard called "Lift Him Up" by Blind Alfred Reed. Having sold over 290K albums, OCMS can attribute much of their success to their relentless touring schedule. Between headlining shows and countless festivals (Bonnaroo, Telluride Bluegrass Festival, New Orleans Jazz Festival, etc), the band lives on the road - they thrive on the communal experience of the live shows. OCMS have made a name for themselves as energetic performers with an unbridled spirit."as musicians, songwriters and singers, they are the smartest and finest purveyors of American music to come down the pike in decades." - Don Was
