Customer Rating: Summary: No more covers, David Comment: Some covers CDs are good, some are lukewarm. I was really disappointed in this CD. I did listen to some of the samples. Maybe it was me, nah, it was David. Go back to your formula that made you David Benoit. Need some fresh songs, fresh producers. You can do better, I expect more.
Customer Rating: Summary: Overdone Comment: While it's nice to include a cover song in an album, releasing an album of cover songs is getting overdone. Too many artists are taking the easy way out and covering other artists songs instead of creating their own original music. If you want to pay homage to an artist write a new song in their style. I want to hear new music not remakes.
Customer Rating: Summary: Out standing cd Comment: Mr. Benoit 08 rel. is awesome, outstanding superb. He just keeps getting beter & better on each cd he puts out. Id go to the cd store & buy this as quick as you can.I give this cd a 10.
Customer Rating: Summary: Benoit Plays the Classics Comment: David Benoit goes back to his roots with lots of clean and crisp piano playing. A wonderful album!!
Customer Rating: Summary: SmoothJazz.com Review Comment: One of the finest contemporary piano players of our time releases a gorgeous new recording celebrating the music of his favorite recording artists (his heroes) including: The Beatles, Dave Brubeck, Miles Davis, Oscar Peterson, The Doors, Bill Evans, Michael Jackson and Horace Silver. In the album's liner notes, he says that he realizes that he's saluting jazz greats along with rock gods and that may seem incongruent, his response is, "These are artists that shaped my career. That touched my soul. That gave me a reason to be a musician." He admits a few omissions including Leonard Bernstein, John Barry and Henry Mancini as he believes these artists deserve to be represented in a more orchestral context. Benoit has paid tribute to another hero in the past, Vince Guaraldi and even suggests the possibility of entire album dedications to Antonio Carlos Jobim and Claude Bolling. This tasty outing features David's sophisticated, rich piano styling... he's as engaging as ever on this, his second release on the Peak recording label. HEROES is a brilliantly produced/arranged full band recording featuring strings (violin, viola, cello) making for a very classic jazz presentation. It reminds me of the albums that my father used to play... the likes of Oscar Peterson, Miles Davis, Cal Tjader... From Michael Jackson's "Human Nature" to Dave Grusin's "Mountain Dance," to The Doors "Light My Fire," Benoit suspends time with this elegant homage to his musical champions!

Editorial Reviews:

David Benoit pays homage to some of his favourite recording artists that have had a distinct influence on his creativity throughout the years. The music of Dave Grusin, Elton John, The Doors, Horace Silver, Miles Davis, The Beatles and Dave Brubeck are very diverse in style, but, similar in terms of impact on the legendary contemporary jazz pianist's career.
