Summary: Great Flash
Comment: After much thinking I purchased the 430EX. One of my employees has one for his new Canon 12.2mp and so I took a look at some of his pictures from an even we both attended. It sold me on this flash and I have not been disappointed. Is is significantly lighter and cheaper that the 580-EX and is great for the semi professional shooter.

Summary: A little extra light when ever I need it.
Comment: The 430ex is a nice flash allows for that extra light I need when shooting back stage of a Boys R Us drag show or photographing a model in lingerie in the middle of the city standing on a street corner.

Summary: Not intended for professionals
Comment: We originally purchased this flash for my wife who didn't want a huge flash making her camera heavy while shooting 6 hours worth of a wedding/reception with me. However, if you plan on using this flash for anything other than horrible family shots, be prepared to purchase some sort of modifier (attachable softbox, bounce card, etc.). On its own, it's not worth much. We're actually about to send this back in exchange for another 580EX (that I currently shoot with). Spend a bit more and get a much better flash.

Summary: Versatile flash
Comment: This is a versatile flash with many angle adjustments available. It has plenty of flash power for most users. Definitely a better choice than the 220EX.

Summary: Another great flash for EOS
Comment: Affordable and works just fine if you don't need the slave capability. And it actually recharges significantly faster the the more expensive model. I'm happy with it.

Editorial Reviews:

This exciting new addition to the EOS System combines compact size and affordability with an added dose of features and sophistication. Improving on the previous model, Speedlite 420EX, the new 430EX can now be set into manual flash mode (full power~1/64). Flash compensation can be set on the flash unit, and manual control of the flash zoom head is now possible. Improvements in its circuitry make recycle time 40% faster, and since it is compatible with Canon's wireless E-TTL, it can be used as an affordable "slave unit".
