Summary: Its an alright CD.
Comment: I needed another gospel CD so I decided to purchase this one even though the movie has been out for some time now. Its an alright CD. I absolutely love the Tamala Mann song "Father can you hear me". It make me cry everytime I hear it! But thats about the only song I play over and over.

Summary: love it!
Comment: another one of my favorite soundtracks. this one speaks to my spirit. loved the movie as well. great to listen to on a sunday morning after church or just when you feel like you need some inspirational words. favorite track is ain't it funny. that song is true for any woman who dealt with a man, similar to the main character in the movie. as my mother used to say "leave them alone and they'll come home, wagging their tails behind them." that's why that song speaks true to me the most. the funny part is that when they're ready to come home it's too late.

Summary: EXCELLENT soundtrack!!
Comment: Since 'Diary of a Mad Black Woman' is one of my favorite movies, I decided to order the soundtrack. However, after reading some of the negative reviews, I almost wished I hadn't. After receiving the cd, I'm so glad I didn't cancel my order. I LOVE the soundtrack! Through the highs of life and the lows of life, this soundtrack stays with you.

I'm a little stumped over the editorial review of Cheryl Riley's version of 'One of Us'. She sings the song with passion and deep insight; another lovely version of an incredible song. My favorite track on the cd is, hands down, 'Take it to Jesus' by Tamela Mann. What a powerful message about the love and grace of God! Excellent, excellent arrangement!!

While I can understand some of the other reviewers questioning why some of the artists on the cd are not the artists from the movie, this soundtrack is still very well arranged. It will not disappoint!

Editorial Reviews:

For years now, music video directors have had no problem at all making the leap to the big screen to direct feature length movies. The cinematic virtues of this are up to debate, but surely a veteran video director will be able to corral a world-class soundtrack, right? In the case of Diary of a Mad Black Woman, the answer’s yes—and no. The talent is certainly impressive on Diary—Natalie Cole, Angie Stone, India Arie—but most of the songs sound like cuts that were left off an album. India Arie’s "Purify Me" is a sweet, light, and excellent bit of confectionery that might be about God, it might be about a physical man—it’s hard to tell. Her other song here , "Different Directions," is definitely about a man, and it kicks. Cheryl Riley’s cover of Jewel’s "One of Us," however, is run-from-the-room-screaming bad. Ms. Cole’s "I Wanna Love Again," a new song, is a sweet, excellently-produced torch ballad, but is not the thing that comebacks are made of. --Mike McGonigal
