Summary: Not a great FPS.
Comment: Red Faction is the first FPS available for the Nokia N-Gage. It is based on the events of the first Red Faction (PC, PS2), but has entirely different levels.

Graphics are detailed, but look very muddy. Animation is blurry. Most of the enemies in a level usually look the same. The innovative Geo-Mod engine is here, which allows you to blow holes through walls. It is not very useful here, as it only works sometimes, and never leads to any secret areas. Control is hard at first because of the lack of shoulder buttons, but it is good once you learn it. The D-Pad walks you around, and there is an auto-aim feature. Changing weapons, firing, and other actions are on the numbered keys.

The worst part about it is that it feels bland. The story is not worth following, and level design is predictable. They all either consist of finding a key to unlock a door, or simply going from point A to point B. Multiplayer gameplay is wireless (both players need an N-Gage and a copy of the game, just like other N-Gage games), but maps are either too big for 2 players, or too simple. There is support for up to 4 players, but it gets choppy with more than 2.

In the end, Red Faction is playable, but not very enjoyable. For now, it is the only FPS on the N-Gage. If you want a handheld FPS, look on the Game Boy Adavance. If you are looking for Red Faction 3, this is definetely NOT it.

Editorial Reviews:

As a miner working deep beneath the surface of Mar, you must solve the mystery that's killing your friends.
