Customer Rating: Summary: Really Great Alfred Hitchcock! Comment: This is a light Hitchcock movie, probably not one of his greatest, but pretty close! The film does not focus on murder or mayhem or even tragedy. It is all about stealing jewels! If you thought that jewel thieves were interesting, this is your movie. If not, here the movie grows on you and you won't care about it being about jewel thieves. The acting is superlative and funny. It is not made in a serious manner and that is great. The movie is about being on vacation, seeing the French Rivera and being with wealthy people who have their jewels stolen. It's fun and light.
Customer Rating: Summary: "You're somewhat egotistical." Comment: ....and that is only one great quote from this movie. I love anything Hitchcock, and this film is no exception--but if you're looking for a suspense filled edge-of-your-seat thriller like Vertigo or North by Northwest, this isn't it. Despite that, it truly showcases the range of Hitchcock's brilliance, and his ability to create varying tones in different movies. A little more frothy and visually enjoyable than most of his films; it's shot entirely at the Cote D'Azur in the South of France, tempting me considerably to become an expatriate.
If you want a movie that will leave you feeling lighter after you watch it, rather than feeling slightly disturbed, as some of his movies do (although I admit that I enjoy being disturbed quite often), this is the one to do it. The dialogue between the characters is priceless--clever, witty, and dated enough to make it new again. A must for any good movie collection.
Customer Rating: Summary: To Catch a Thief Comment: A great classic movie! Cary Grant and Grace Kelly make a great romantic combination and when coupled with Alfred Hitchcock what could be better? See if you can find Hitchcock in a cameo in this movie. He always inserts himself somewhere in his movies, sometimes more obvious than others. This is definitely a "Must Have" for those Cary Grant collectors!!! And the Collector's Edition has some nice Extra Features.

This minor 1955 work by Alfred Hitchcock, one of the lighter entries of his creative peak in the 1950s, is still imbued with the master's stock themes of shared guilt and romantic ambivalence. It is also hardly lacking in Hitchcockian cinematic inventiveness, such as a famous, often-imitated sequence in which some smooching between stars Cary Grant and Grace Kelly is intercut with a fireworks show that just happens to be going on outside in a Riviera setting. Grant plays a reformed cat burglar who is suspected of reviving his trade, though he knows someone else is using his old methods. A very enjoyable experience, but don't get this confused with Hitchcock's other Cary Grant film of that decade, which was a masterpiece: North by Northwest. --Tom Keogh
