Customer Rating: Summary: Steve Reeves best role! Comment: I actually found a VHS copy of this film several years ago, and it's one of my most favorite films. Steve Reeves is perfect as a heroic thief in this Arabian fantasy. The story and action sequences keep the viewer interested. Overall, a great addition to anyones collection.
Customer Rating: Summary: Thief of Baghdad 1961 Comment: I saw this movie when I was a young child- in the 60's, and was facinated by the Arabian Nights story, characters and magic. I hadn't thought about "The Blue Rose" in years, until I attended a Halloween Party last night and I remembered a reoccuring dream that I had as a child; A tall Arabian Man in a turban is chasing me with a shiny Scimitar - as he starts to bring his blade down on me- I wake up.
I had this dream from childhood well into my 30's. I imagine this is the movie that prompted the "scary" dream.
I wish it was available on DVD! LOL
The Thief of Baghdad
Customer Rating: Summary: THE GREATEST BODYBUILDER OF ALLTIME IN ONE OF HIS BEST FILMS Comment: If you like action/adventure, sword and sandal films, get this movie. It has a good story, decent acting(even with dubbed voices),and an above average musical score. The added benefit of course is Steve Reeves, the greatest bodybuilder of them all.He came from an era where it wasn't about how many different kinds of steroids your body could absorb.Health was still a major part of the bodybuilding scene at that time. He learned alot about healthy eating habits from his mother, who had been a nutritionist.Although born in Montana, Steve grew up in Oakland where he began lifting weights.Coincidentally, Oakland is where the first health opened. (Jack LaLanne 1936)When Steve burst on the bodybuilding scene in the mid 1940's it caused quite a sensation. His proportions were astounding. Remember, back then the goal was to look like a Greek god not a walking freak show.At a height of 6'1" and 214 pounds, Steve's neck, biceps, and calves all measured 18 and a half inches. His chest measurement was 52 inches and his waist was a miniscule 29 inches. At the time he was considered for the lead role in the movie SAMSON AND DELILAH which later went to Victor Mature. He appeared in a number of television shows pre-Hercules, Topper, Ozzie and Harriet, and several others.Of course he had a part in the movie ATHENA. He even acted in an old Ed Wood movie.Someone like Reeves comes around once in a lifetime. He carried himself with class and dignity up until his death in 2000. He succumbed to lymphoma. I would also recommend his book on nutrition and weightlifting to anyone interested.
Customer Rating: Summary: the Grateful Dead/Quest for "water of life" myth!!! Comment: This film is a modern retelling of the universal tale of the the Grateful Dead/Quest for "water of life" myth!!!
A favorite movie from childhood and a wonderful story at any age, it's values and ethics are in short supply in today's culture and it's lack of availability is a travesty!
Somebody, please do something, my fuzzy VHS copy taped from TV decades ago is all but unplayable.
Thanks in Advance!
David
