Customer Rating: Summary: Works, but hard to follow Comment: This was my first workout video I bought about 10 years ago when I was a slightly overweight teenager. It was difficult to follow. She often wouldn't tell you what move she was going to do next until she was already doing it. On one rep she would do a movement 2 or 3 times and the next time just do it once. She seemed to be making it up as she went along- you could almost see her thinking "hey, I should be doing something with my arms- maybe this!". The only other negative thing about it is her constant frantic shrieking. It reminds me of a miniature schnauzer I used to have that would get so excited to see us come home it would pee all over the floor. With the volume down, it is tolerable, and with all that being said, I did this video 5 times/week for the summer and lost about 35 pounds.
Customer Rating: Summary: Ignore the first part, do the second instead Comment: This video consists of two 20 minute workout sessions. The first one is low-impact and the second is medium-impact circuit training with weights.
I recommend skipping the first session. It's not choreographed well at all; in fact, I think Denise was making up the steps as she went along. Also, it's boring and repetitive.
The second session is the one I love. (It's amazing how two sessions on the same tape by the same instructor can be so different!) I've been using it a few times a week for a few years now and I never get sick of it. It is well choreographed. The steps are easy to follow once you do it a few times. It's just the right amount of aerobics and light weights. The music is, suprisingly, not that annoying. I always work up a sweat when I do this workout. After a couple of weeks of doing it, I definitely noticed a difference in my arms and legs in terms of toning. This is a perfect little workout and I highly recommend it.
Customer Rating: Summary: FANTASTIC WORKOUT (with a side of cheese)!! Comment: If I were stranded on a desert island and could choose only one workout video...yes, it would really be this one. You must endure Denise's cheesiness (and the 80s music), but the 2nd workout on this tape is fantastic. From start to finish it's less than a half hour and in that time you never do weights or aerobics for longer than 3 minutes at a time. Before you know it, you've had a full body aerobic workout--weights and all. I've tried a lot of other videos (including many of Denise's) but I haven't found any that give me such a complete workout in such a short amount of time like the 2nd one on this tape. When I do it even just 2 times a week regularly I can really see and feel a diffence in my legs, upper arms, butt and waist. SO, if you want quick and easy this is it!
(Incidentally, I could take or leave the 1st workout on this tape, but if you like longer and slower it may be for you).
Customer Rating: Summary: My favorite aerobics tape ever! Comment: The first segment is so fun and you really work up a sweat. The moves seem simple but the way they're put together really makes you feel like you're getting a great workout. The second segment is definitely a challenge, the first couple times it was hard for me to get through them but each time it gets easier. I actually look forward to exercising every day. Now that's an amazing workout!
Customer Rating: Summary: ONLY for the super-coordinated Comment: Denise Austin is very nice and fun to watch, and it is in a great beach setting, but her steps are soooo COMPLICATED, you need to be a dancer to do them. I have been doing FIRM workouts for years, and I don't get discombobulated very easy, but I felt like I was tripping over my own feet ("Okay, grapevine, boxstep, mambo, turn and jump!"). I almost landed on my head, and the funny thing is, she even trips over HER feet when she is doing it (Watch carefully...you'll see her stumble). How does she expect us to do it???
She seems really nice, really. But I can't reccommend this video.

Rev up the speed that you need to burn calories by alternating these two beginning-level cardiovascular workouts. Denise Austin (in a two-piece swimsuit and carrying no visible body fat) gives you two different 20-minute workouts in this 1996 video. First is a low-impact routine with simple moves: marches forward, knee lifts, side lunges, cha chas, and shuffles, for example, with even simpler arm work. There are no patterns--just one move repeated a bunch of times, then another move, so this video is best for exercisers who don't want to think about choreography. The setting is an outdoor park overlooking the ocean. Austin's second workout moves onto the beach with a circuit/interval routine that alternates three minutes of aerobics with one minute of body sculpting with weights or a weighted bar such as the Body Bar. The aerobics are very simple--just a couple of moves repeated for three minutes. Each strengthening segment is one move, such as a lunge or military press, repeated for one minute. Throughout both workouts, Austin cheerleads with her bubbly personality and encouragements like "You can do it," "You deserve it," and "If you rest, you rust!" The music is more energizing than in many of Austin's other videos. If you like Austin, you'll enjoy this one. --Joan Price
