Zetera’s Z-SAN™ Technology Helps Netgear® Deliver First True Storage-Over-IP (SoIP) Solution
First Zetera-based product launched as Storage Central™; available in major retail outlets.
Irvine, CA (PRWEB) September 12, 2005 -- Zetera Corporation today announced
that the first product to incorporate its breakthrough Z-SAN™ technology is now
commercially available from NETGEAR®, Inc. (Nasdaq: NTGR).
The product,
called Storage Central (SC101), is a network storage system for the
consumer/residential market, and represents the first true Storage-over-IP
(SoIP) solution available from any manufacturer. (Please refer to NETGEAR's news
release dated September 12, 2005 or visit http://netgear.com/pressroom/press_releases.php)
Since
announcing its innovative Z-SAN technology at CES in January 2005, Zetera
technology has been acknowledged throughout the storage industry as the first to
deliver a true SoIP architecture by using Internet Protocol (IP) itself as the
storage fabric. According to David Reinsel, IDC's program director, storage
research, "Zetera's innovative storage architecture appears to simultaneously
optimize all four critical success factors - performance, cost, reliability and
scalability."
Dedicated to making network storage practical and
affordable for mass markets, Zetera's inventors were inspired by the simplicity
and scalability of the Internet. "Home consumers have been accumulating vast
quantities of digital photos, videos, music and personal archives," said Chuck
Cortright, Zetera president and CEO. "Now they need a simple way to store, share
and ensure the safety of these precious assets. NETGEAR's Storage Central is the
ideal solution, delivering business-class technology to the home and small
business consumer."
Based on industry-standard Internet Protocol (IP),
Zetera's Z-SAN network storage technology eliminates the need for costly
controllers, gateways and RAID controllers that have limited network storage to
the enterprise. Z-SAN's highly efficient protocol delivers storage area network
performance over standard IP networks. By virtualizing storage at the IP layer
(e.g., SoIP), Z-SAN eliminates the physical transport gateways and disk
controllers that have made storage area networks so costly and cumbersome.
SoIP storage solutions enabled by Z-SAN can reside anywhere on the
network, and can be shared, spanned or mirrored to any local or remote location.
By being fully IP compliant, Zetera protocols handle all IP network structures
including LAN, wireless LAN, PTPP, Bluetooth and UWB.
Zetera's Z-SAN
technology scales smoothly from consumer applications to massive data center
arrays, addressing the price/performance needs and scalability concerns of all
segments of the storage market. Wherever Zetera technology is deployed, the
resulting storage systems perform better, cost less, and scale more
fluidly.
