HELIOS Exclusive PDF-Native OPI Breakthrough Debuts at PRINT 05
HELIOS ImageServer is the only server-based OPI workflow to preserve Adobe InDesign PDF features including transparency, drop shadows, and embedded XMP metadata.
Garbsen, Germany (PRWEB) September 7, 2005 -– HELIOS Software GmbH, a leading
network and prepress solutions developer, today announced its PDF-native Open
Prepress Interface (OPI) image replacement solution, HELIOS PDF HandShake UB and
ImageServer UB, will debut at PRINT 05 (booth #6124) in Chicago.
PDF-native
OPI is an essential, and until now, missing component of time critical, high
volume PDF document workflows based on Adobe® InDesign®
software, which would benefit from server-based image repurposing with color
management and output optimization. The HELIOS solution fully supports PDF transparency and XMP metadata features, and speeds local
and remote page composition workflows by eliminating the need to transfer
high-resolution images back and forth.
“OPI has been one of the
unfinished components of high-end PDF workflows,” said Mark Hilton, senior
director of product management at Adobe. “Now with the HELIOS PDF-native OPI
solution working with Adobe InDesign, customers have a much more complete and
versatile print production toolset that supports the advanced features in
InDesign.”
HELIOS PDF-native OPI replaces, within a PDF file, all low-res
bitmap images with the high-resolution originals, and applies color management
for printing and proofing. It is the only server-based OPI workflow to preserve
Adobe InDesign PDF features like transparency, drop shadows, and embedded XMP
metadata.
“Adobe InDesign is an essential application for HELIOS
customers, and we developed PDF-native OPI especially for them,” according to
Helmut Tschemernjak, President of HELIOS. “This adds to our PostScript OPI,
document preview, remote workflow, and color management solutions for InDesign
documents.”
The HELIOS PDF-native OPI solution offers these key
advantages:
- Remote page composition with low-res images.
- The ability
to submit PDF print jobs before all images are ready – the server will then
generate final high-res PDFs when all of the images are completed.
-
Server-based color management, which enables you to apply or embed ICC profiles
into PDF print jobs to transform images for different printing processes.
-
Output optimization – including downsampling, compression, and file format
conversion.
- Easy repurposing of low-res PDF jobs from InDesign, so you no
longer need to reproduce InDesign documents for different needs, e.g. optimized
for press, proof, web, or archive.
