emBoot Inc. Releases PXE Server Directory Service
emBoot Inc. announces the release of its PXE Server Directory Service (PXESDS), extending the PXE client and server protocol to allow multiple PXE servers to co-exist on the same network.
Mississauga, ON (PRWEB) May 11, 2004 -- emBoot Inc. today announced new
client and server functionality which addresses a growing network management
problem. As more and more desktop management software vendors are incorporating
support for PXE (Pre-eXecution Environment) within their software offerings, it
is quite common for such software to include its own PXE server. When more than
one client management product is deployed, several PXE servers can thus be
active on the same network, causing potential havoc to PXE clients.
“The
original PXE specification does not define a client’s behavior when it receives
replies from multiple PXE servers, said emBoot founder George Kostiuk. “Although
there is some prioritization defined, it is not deterministic.” It is desirable
to have a method to control which PXE server a client will boot from in a
multiple PXE server environment. In order to implement such functionality,
emBoot extended the PXE protocol from both server side and client side.
PXESDS is available immediately, with prices starting at $179. A trial
version is available for evaluation.
