Network Provider Delivers the "Missing Link" Between New York and New Jersey–A Diverse–Non-Commuter Tunnel-Hudson River Crossing-for Telecommunications Network Operators and Users
Lexent Metro Connect activates fiber optic cable in New telecommunications pipeline "bore" crossing the Hudson River.
New York, NY (PRWEB via PR Web
Direct) March 24, 2005 -- Lexent Metro Connect, LLC (LMC) today announced it
has activated the first fiber optic cable through a recently installed secure
telecommunications pipeline "bore" crossing under the Hudson River from mid-town
Manhattan to New Jersey.
The fiber optic river crossing, referred to as
"LX1," offers network operators a completely new option for New York-New Jersey
route diversity through the considerably less exposed Hudson River Crossing, LLC
pathway than the traditional commuter tunnel crossings (Holland, Lincoln, Path,
Amtrak Tunnels) previously available.
"The implementation of the LX1
crossing comes in direct response to Wall Street’s concern about attacks and
catastrophes effecting public and private critical infrastructure, and the need
for more secure telecommunications routes from New York to its datacenters in
New Jersey and further West," said Ray La Chance, Managing Director of Lexent
Metro Connect.
The hybrid LX1 cable is composed of the latest Corning
optical fiber technologies including SMF-28e, LEAF and MetroCor and supports
very low signal loss connectivity from any point on the LMC Dark Fiber Network
to its interconnection point in New Jersey. Additionally, to minimize circuit
delivery time and cost, a portion of LX1 has been pre-configured to provide
connectivity from key New York City telecommunications access points at 60
Hudson St., 111 Eighth Ave., 32 Avenue of the Americas and 601 W 26th Street, to
the Digital Realty Trust datacenter and co-location facility located at 300 Blvd
E in Weehawken, New Jersey. The facility serves equally well as hosting location
or meet-me point to diversify systems and access. Current telecommunications
carriers and datacenter providers serving the facility include Abovenet, ConEd
Communications, Level(3), Looking Glass, Savvis, and Verizon.
"The
activation of this new Hudson River crossing cable underscores Lexent’s long
term commitment to providing our clients with solutions to cost-effectively
expand and enhance their metropolitan New York optical network infrastructure
with turn-key diversity, security and performance options" said Hugh O’Kane,
Jr., Chairman of Lexent Inc.
