Rauland-Borg Introduces an All-Inclusive Digital Streaming Solution for K-12 Schools and Districts
Rauland-Borg is introducing DESS (Digital Education Streaming Solution), a streaming digital video server. It is an economical option for schools that are moving away from videotapes, DVDs and classroom TVs. The server operates on a school's LAN and can stream up to 30 concurrent video streams directly to classroom workstations.
(PRWEB) May 31, 2005 -- Rauland-Borg, the leader in communications and media
management solutions for K-12 schools, announced the introduction of DESS, an
all-inclusive LAN/WAN streaming video server with browser based media searching
and control. The system is designed for schools and districts that use data
networks for delivery of educational video content to classrooms and individual
students.
The Rauland DESS (Digital Education Streaming Solution)
addresses the needs of an education community that is shifting from VHS tapes,
DVDs and classroom TVs in favor of digital videos streamed to classroom
workstations and often displayed over projectors. The value-priced DESS system
provides up to 30 concurrent streams of video over the LAN, eliminating the need
for installation of costly RF video network cabling; any PC or Mac within the
school can have full access to all the digital videos for both classroom
instruction and individualized learning. For school districts with a limited
Wide Area Network (WAN) bandwidth, the DESS system “Store-and-Forward” feature
automatically downloads digital video files over the WAN to the local DESS
system allowing teachers or students to play the videos back over the school
LAN. The LAN and WAN focus of the DESS system helps provide equal access
throughout the district to all available digital video content.
“Given
its low cost, DESS puts digital video within reach of just about any school or
district,” commented Ken McQuillen, Product Manager for Rauland-Borg Media
Systems, “without the need for a complicated bid process or special funding. The
solution performs flawlessly on existing networks, so installation and
maintenance costs are minimal. It’s the ideal entry-level solution for
budget-minded schools and districts that want to take advantage of the growing
library of digital video material available from content suppliers and that the
school may create themselves.”
Rauland-Borg has partnered with leading
education content providers Clearvue, Films Media Group and NASA to offer a full
range of digital videos in K-12 subject areas. DESS is preloaded with over 200
digital videos from these content suppliers.
Rauland-Borg has been a
leader in school communications systems since the 1930s and in multimedia
systems for K-12 facilities for more than 15 years. Today, Rauland-Borg
continues to deliver the best in state-of-the-art communications technology to
