San Francisco (PRWEB) September 7, 2005 -- Mitsui & Co., Ltd., today
announced it has made an investment in Feedster, a leading developer and
provider of RSS search services for the Internet that will help Feedster expand
its business worldwide.
Launched in 2003, San Francisco-based Feedster
has developed a proprietary search engine that provides consumers with
exceedingly timely and meaningful information generated by blogs and other
sources.
Feedster provides a fresh index across over thirteen million
syndicated RSS feeds and blogs including more than 75,000 professionally
published sources such as the BBC, CNET, The New York Times, and Wired and from
millions of multilingual sources, including many from Japan.
RSS, which
stands for Really Simple Syndication, is the format used originally to syndicate
blogs and news, but is now spreading quickly to mainstream commercial use in job
postings, e-commerce, and enterprise solutions.
Blogging has rapidly
spread worldwide. In Japan, according to the research conducted by the Ministry
of Internal Affairs and Communications early this year, about 3.35 million
people blog and 16.5 million read blogs, both of which will double in number in
a couple of years. This will stimulate demand for Feedster’s proprietary blog
and RSS search engines.
“Mitsui has established its market leadership in
Japan by offering its e-commerce clients a variety of e-marketing services that
satisfies their needs through its strong relationship with major U.S. partners,”
says Katsuhiko Oizumi, general manager, Internet service & marketing
department, Mitsui & Co., Ltd. “We will expand their business horizon in
cooperation with our existing e-Marketing services, and leverage our assets to
enhance the corporate value of Feedster.”
“We are pleased to have Mitsui
as an investor,” says Chris Redlitz, Feedster’s Vice President, Sales and
Marketing. “Feedster is already a market leader in blog search and content
syndication. With this investment we continue to distance ourselves from the
field and prepare for global expansion.”
