Users...Demystifying Your Computer Class Series Coming to Copperas Cove
Garner Management Services, Inc. invites cooperation from local ministries, community agencies and businesses to help local residents improve computer related skills by providing non-traditional hands-on classes to develop and enhance basic computer skills as well as build the confidence and computer literacy of the home user.
Copperas Cove, TX (PRWEB) August 5, 2004 -- Garner Management Services, Inc.
(GMS) will hold the first of nine in a series of classes entitled “Demystifying
Your Computer” beginning on Monday evening, August 23, 2004 at the Copperas Cove
Economic Development Corporation (EDC) at 201 S. First Street in Copperas Cove.
The goal of these courses is to give the computer user a new sense of being in
control. You should take these courses if you regularly use a desktop computer
but find that sometimes the computer's behavior seems like magic to you. If you
are pleased when you get the expected result, but frustrated and clueless when
something unexpected happens, these classes are for you.
Become an
empowered and self-reliant PC user. These fun and interactive workshops for
non-technical computer users will be presented in 3 to 4 hour sessions with
rotating weekday daytime and evening sessions, in order to encourage
participation by working adults and parents of school-age children. Additional
locations and session times will be added if there is sufficient
demand.
CEO Jaime Garner said, “Since the advent of "easy" user
interfaces we've been running into more and more non-technical computer users
who find themselves in trouble and have no idea what to do. Based on these
experiences, we decided to depart from our long-standing focus on information
systems professional skill development and to offer a short course for people
who have no technical background. That might include managers, administrative
staff, writers, lawyers, and other end users from all areas. But not
dummies.”
Pending final calendar approval by the EDC, classes will be
held on Monday evenings starting August 23 at 6:00 p.m. and on Tuesdays starting
August 24 from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Please be aware that one or two class
sessions may have to be rescheduled due to prior reservations of other groups
using the EDC conference room.
Course Titles in the Series include:
“Demystifying Windows”, “Demystifying Hardware and Software”, “How to Add
Peripherals (Or What is a Peripheral and Why Would I Add One?)”, “The Office
Suite Simplified” (Breakout Series will include sessions on Word, Excel,
PowerPoint, Outlook, Access and Front Page), “How to Find Anything: Internet
Search and Research”, “How to (Heart) Your Internet Connection (WiFi, Satellite,
Cable, DSL and Dial-Up)”, “Demystifying e-Mail”, “Viruses, Bugs and Spam – How
Not to be a Victim”, and “How to Survive (and Recover from) a Crash”.
GMS
features small class sizes, flexible scheduling, and in-home or in-office staff
training on a broad range of non-core business operations and career development
subjects as well as project management and technical support for business
systems and networks.
Class registration fees for the “Demystifying Your
Computer” series start at $20.00 per course title or $160.00 for the entire
series if you pre-register on or before August 16th. Participation is limited to
a minimum of 4 and a maximum of 12 students per session. Late registration,
subject to availability, will be $28.00 per course title. Participants will
receive a certificate of completion for each class and an award for completing
the whole series. Registration for the following series will begin on September
16th for classes beginning in October.
In order to make the classes most
accessible to users with the highest need for this type of instruction, GMS is
inviting participation from local ministries, agencies and businesses who would
like to host additional or customized training sessions at their locations, or
to sponsor childcare, transportation and fee scholarships for workshop attendees
who require these services.
