New SMB Email-Archiving White Paper Released
Addresses the Challenge Small to Midsized Businesses Face In Email Achieving Regulatory Compliance On a Budget
MINNEAPOLIS, MINN. (PRWEB) July 8, 2005 -- Intradyn announced today at the
2005 Microsoft Worldwide Partner Conference (http://www.microsoftwwpartnerconference.com) the public
availability of a white paper it has jointly published with its partner Sony
Electronics (NYSE: SNY). The paper examines one of today’s hottest technology
and business issues: email archiving to achieve compliance with increasingly
demanding laws and regulations, which require companies to (1) retain all their
email, in some cases on non-alterable or WORM (write once, read many) media; and
then (2) be capable of quickly accessing specific emails from those archives.
The paper also addresses a hot sub-topic: secure “encryption” of archived
data.
The white paper, entitled “Email-Archiving Regulatory Compliance
for Small to Midsized Businesses (SMBs),” is available for download at http://www.intradyn.com/pdfs/EmailArchiving-IntradynSony.pdf.
It presents, in easy-to-understand business terms, the background behind the
email compliance issue, and the requirements of such rules as the SEC’s 17a-4.
The latter affects a market estimated at more than 100,000 small to midsized
firms, and this is not the only industry segment affected by email retention and
availability regulations. Finally, the white paper presents a simple, automated
solution that meets the two prime requirements of SMBs today: simplicity and
affordability. This solution combines Intradyn’s ComplianceVault™ appliance and
Sony® AIT™ tape technology and associated WORM tape media.
Specifically,
the new Intradyn-Sony white paper addresses these important points about email
archiving:
-The mission-critical nature of email today
-The need for
“archiving,” and how it differs from “backup”
-How “encryption” of archived
data, an increasing concern, can be a simple, affordable option
-The need for
quick search and retrieval of email
-Why existing ”enterprise” solutions for
email archiving will not work for SMBs
-How an automated “appliance”
solution, combining the best of both disk and tape, can be an easy-to-implement
answer to the problem of affordable email archiving for smaller firms
The
Intradyn-Sony Partnership
Intradyn agreed to partner with Sony Electronics in
2004 to jointly market an integrated email archiving solution consisting of an
Intradyn ComplianceVault™ appliance and a Sony AIT™ tape library. Sony formally
announced the partnership in early 2005 (http://news.sel.sony.com/pressrelease/5697) and is reselling
the ComplianceVault™ with and without Sony® AIT™ tape libraries through its
extensive solution provider network nationwide. Working with Sony, Intradyn has
been directly involved in ComplianceVault™ training for more than 2,500 channel
sales representatives from CDW, Insight, PC Mall, and Softmart over the past 60
days.
Email Archiving Solution
Intradyn’s ComplianceVault™ appliance
is an integrated hardware/software solution that captures all of a user
company’s email on a continuous basis, from a virtually unlimited number of
mailboxes – storing all email messages on both hard disk and unalterable media
(Sony® AIT™ WORM tape). The product is an easy-to-use appliance that connects
quickly to the network to give smaller firms powerful email search and retrieval
capabilities. It works with Microsoft® Exchange™, Lotus Notes®, Novell
Groupwise®, or any IMAP or POP3 email server. It can be quickly installed,
requires no integration or IT expertise, and allows the administrator to search
the content of up to one million emails per second by keywords, date or range of
dates, or by mailbox/user. In addition, the device has an audit feature that
tracks all access to the system. For more information about the ComplianceVault™
Email Archiving & Retrieval Appliance, featuring Sony® AIT™ tape technology,
