Diogenes Analytical Laboratories Announces Winner of First “Quality Awards” for Enterprise Storage Arrays
Comprehensive survey of 300 end users rates Hitachi Data Systems as top provider of enterprise storage arrays.
(PRWEB) August 12, 2005 -- Information--technology (IT) advisory company
Diogenes Analytical Laboratories, Inc. announced the winner of the first
Diogenes Labs—Storage magazine Quality Awards for storage products. The award,
which was presented in the category of Enterprise Storage Arrays, went to
Hitachi Data Systems (HDS) for its Lightning series of storage arrays. The
winner was featured in the cover story of the August 2005 issue of Storage, and
copy of the expanded report may be found at www.diogeneslab.com.
The Diogenes Labs and Storage
magazine Quality Awards are based on the results of a Diogenes Labs survey of
300 enterprise storage users drawn from Storage magazine’s qualified subscriber
base of enterprise storage managers and storage-focused IT professionals. The
survey rates each product on a 1.0-8.0 scale according to criteria most closely
related to a product’s suitability, price, TCO, and reliability: sales
competence, product features, product quality, product reliability and technical
support. Each category was scored separately and averaged to find the highest
aggregate score.
The enterprise storage arrays Quality Awards survey
evaluated five products: HDS’ Lightning, EMC’s Symmetrix line, HP’s XP arrays,
IBM’s ESS and DS series, and Sun Microsystems’ StorEdge 9900 Series. HDS placed
first in every category except sales competence, in which Sun placed first and
HDS second. The other vendors’ aggregate ranking, by average score, fell in the
following order: Sun, HP, IBM, and EMC.
“Product quality and reliability
are critical purchase considerations,” said Phil Goodwin, president of Diogenes.
“Often buyers have to rely on ‘urban legend’ or other subjective measures when
making a purchase decision. The Diogenes—Storage Quality Award is the only award
of its kind that allows users—often the toughest critics—to evaluate the
products they use every day to do their jobs. As a result, we can provide
enterprise storage buyers with an accurate measure of quality for one of the
most expensive purchases they will make.”
