Texas Horse Ranch Breeds Competition Cutting Horses
Horse Ranch in East Texas specializes in the breeding and training of Paint and Quarter Cutting Horses for sell and show.
(PRWEB) March 23, 2005 -- The Double S Ranch is a family-owned working
Cutting Horse and Guest Ranch, nestled on over 800 secluded acres in East Texas,
adjacent to Lake Cypress Springs just outside of Mt. Vernon, Texas. The ranch
specializes in breeding and training of Paint and Quarter Cutting Horses and
belongs to several professional associations including the National Cutting
Horse Association, American Cutting Horse Association, American Paint Horse
Association, and the American Quarter Horse Association.
The Double S
Ranch (www.doublessranch.com) uses state of the art facilities in its
cutting horse operations. There is a fully enclosed indoor arena that has an
upstairs air-conditioned viewing room for prospective buyers to watch the horses
and cattle in action. The ranch also has a large outdoor working arena with
raised seating for showing horses in nice weather. In addition to the two
arenas, there are also two horse barns. One barn houses 20 horse stalls, an
office, a tack room and a breeding area. The other contains several expandable
horse stalls for mares and their foals.
All of the fine facilities are
in place to aid in the development of competition quality Cutting Horses. Many
of the horses at the Double S Ranch come from championship bloodlines. American
Quarter Horse Association bloodlines include Dual Pep, Dual Peppy, TR Dual Rey
and CD Olena just to name a few. There are also several horses with American
Paint Horse Association bloodlines from the likes of Doc Stinger, Diamond Jewel,
Diamond Jim, and Durn Critter Dandy Boy, which is the only homozygous bloodline
at the ranch. The Double S Ranch also has its own prize winning Paint Horse
stallion used in breeding, Sting-n-Starlight.
The Double S Ranch also
makes good use of the expansiveness of the property. The ranch has 100 acres of
land where it grows its own grass to feed the horses. The grass is cut, raked
and bailed several times a year and stored in an 8500 square foot hay barn to
provide the horses with adequate nutrition and to ensure the ranch has complete
control over its operations. The ranch utilizes the many natural springs and
wells on the property to run an irrigation system that is used in the summer
months to water the grass in the horse pens. A herd of cattle is also maintained
on the property and is used in the training of the horses.
In addition to
breeding, training and selling horses, the ranch recently opened its gates to
vacationers. Contained with in the 800 acres is Deer lake Cabins, which is owned
in conjunction with the Double S Ranch. Deer Lake Cabins offers 8 luxury cabins
that can accommodate from 2-8 people. Most of the cabins are located on the
shores of the ranch’s two stocked fishing lakes. All cabins are beautifully
furnished and include full kitchens, televisions, VCRs, central heat and air and
most have washers and dryers. Guests are given free rein to explore the 12 miles
of trails and experience all of the nature and wildlife that exist at the ranch.
Guests are also given access to fishing boats that are equipped with electric
motor so they can fish or just ride around on the lakes.
As a way to let
visitors interact more closely with the wildlife and give them more viewing
opportunities, special grass and wild feed have been planted through out the
property to encourage deer and other wildlife to remain on the property. Also,
in an effort to blend the horse ranch operations with the guests staying at the
cabins, the Double S Ranch will soon be providing trail riding experiences via
horseback. Thus giving the guests a more rustic adventure and a different
prospective of nature.
The Double S Ranch plans on staying a small and
cozy vacation getaway, with the accommodations and service for large groups, but
the seclusion and privacy that families desire.
