Embedded Planet Announces Support for Freescale’s PowerQUICC™ II Pro Family
PrPMC Single Board Computer Supporting MPC8343 and MPC8347 Processors
Cleveland, OH (PRWEB) June 23, 2005 -- Embedded Planet, a leading single
board computer and embedded systems provider, today announced support for the
Freescale Semiconductor PowerQUICC II Pro family of processors based on PowerPC™
cores with the addition of the EP834xM to their line of single-board computers.
The EP834xxM continues in Embedded Planet’s tradition of providing production
ready boards that can be used out of the box with a simple wall cube power
supply, serial cable, and Ethernet cable. It is the perfect solution for
engineers looking for a jumpstart on MPC34x development with a smooth transition
to a production environment.
“The PowerQUICC II Pro family provides a
nice evolutionary path for companies with existing products based on the
PowerQUICC II family from Freescale,” said Matt Hoover, Vice President of Sales
and Marketing for Embedded Planet. “Our customers have been asking for the
increased functionality present in the PowerQUICC II Pro line, such as
integrated USB and we are excited to be able to deliver.”
The EP834xM can
be configured as a standalone single board computer with the included power
supply or as a PrPMC/PT1MC (PICMG 2.15) module for use in CompactPCI
telecommunication applications. It can be configured with up to 256MB of flash,
512MB of DDR RAM, and 512kB of NVRAM. For external connectivity each board
includes 2 Gigabit Ethernet ports, 1 USB 2.0 Host/Device/On-the-Go port, and 1
RS-232 serial port.
“The PowerQUICC II Pro family represents a
cost-effective yet high-performance platform for building networking
applications, and Embedded Planet’s EP834xM will help manufacturers get ahead of
the curve,” said Mike Shoemake, PowerQUICC family marketing manager for
Freescale Semiconductor. “We are pleased to also offer the Embedded Planet
solution as a part of our QUICCstart evaluation board series, which will help
simplify the evolution from PowerQUICC II devices for those customers looking
for more system performance and advanced peripheral support.”
The
PowerQUICC II Pro family builds on Freescale’s system-on-chip architecture by
integrating an e300 PowerPC core and advanced interconnect peripherals, such as
a DDR interface, USB 2.0 controllers, dual Gigabit Ethernet, and PCI
controllers. The operating frequencies scale to 667MHz, making for a
high-performance computing engine while maintaining low power
requirements.
The EP834xM will be available for purchase from Embedded Planet
in the third quarter of 2005. Embedded Planet will provide Linux and VxWorks
BSPs to enable rapid application development and shorten time-to-market. As with
all Embedded Planet products the EP834xM can be customized to meet specific
customer requirements.
