Sports911.com Predicts Record Number of Wagers for this Year's Oscars
All indications point to more and more people placing bets on the Academy Awards.
Miami Beach, FL (PRWEB) February 22, 2005 -- Based on preliminary data,
Sports911.com has determined that the 2005 Oscars will likely lead to
unprecedented betting action.
"The Super Bowl was huge for us," explained
Thomas Jensen, Marketing Director for Sports911.com. "We witnessed an explosive
surge in traffic of more than 200% the six hours prior to kick off, but with the
Oscars Sports911 is seeing even greater interest well before the big
night."
Sports911.com forecast calls for a five time increase in traffic
this upcoming Sunday compared with prior "same day" periods with the exception
of Super Bowl Sunday, though some factors suggest the potential for even greater
increases than that of Super Bowl.
The 2005 Academy Awards will be
broadcast this coming Sunday, February 27.
Among the favorites to win,
Jamie Foxx is considered the closest thing to a lock at -3000 (Skybook.com).
Meanwhile, Best picture appears to be a neck and neck race between The Aviator
(slight favorite to win) and Million Dollar Baby. Sideways sits with +700 odds
on average across the board.
Although Clint Eastwood and Martin Scorcese
are pretty much tied as favorites to win best director, pay out odds for the
other three nominees could translate into a hefty profit should the underdog
win. Alexander Payne pays up to $5000 for every $100 bet (PinnacleSports.com);
as do Taylor Hackford and Mike Leigh.
Best supporting actress is a close
call between Virginia Madsen, Cate Blanchett and Natalie Portman, but since the
category is not set in stone, Laura Linney at around +3500 odds and Sophie
Okonedo up to +5000 at PinnacleSports.com are both worth a look.
"And it
is possible to wager on each of the five choices at different betting shops,"
explained Jensen. "All you need is one big underdog like a Sophie Okonedo to
come out on top and you walk off with $5000."
The Oscars is widely
considered The Super Bowl of Entertainment by many shops that feature odds on
this coveted event.
It is estimated that millions of dollars will be
wagered on the Oscars this year though this figure is based on volume of people
placing bets as opposed to the dollar amount since most sportsbooks impose low
limits and the average individual betting on the Academy Awards tends to bet
under $100.
