(PRWEB) February 15, 2005 -- Hollywood movies the likes of "Cincinatti Kid",
"Rounders", "Maverick", and even "The Sting" have solidly impacted poker over
the years. Now the World Series of Poker, which has always been the "real deal"
and the long time pinnacle of poker, makes it's debut in Hollywood! The World
"Series" has always been exactly what it's name depicts it to be, that is, a
daily series of poker tournaments all month long, leading up to and culminating
with the no limit holdem, final, main championship event, the "World
Championship" as we know it. The main event has grown in leaps and bounds from a
mere 312 players in 1999, needing only 3 days to complete, with a first place
prize of a mere 1 million U.S. dollars, now up and skyward bound to a staggering
attendance of 2,576 players in 2004, requiring a full week to complete and
accompanied by a $5 million dollar first place prize, with even $1.1 million
going to a distant 5th place finish. This year in July 2005, over 7,000 players
are anticipated to ante up the $10,000 each and compete for an estimated first
prize of a whopping $10 million U.S. dollars!
This feeding frenzy has
been mainly attributed to the onslaught of online poker players coming on stream
at enormous epidemic rates and fueling what appears to be "Poker Mania". Both
online qualifiers, Chris Moneymaker (2003) and Greg Raymer (2004) went on to win
the title, affirming the logo I noticed printed on some player's baseball cap,
who was on my table at the series a couple of years ago... "The World Series of
Poker"... "Anyone can win".
"Lucky You" is destined to be a surefire hit
at the box office as hoards of eager beaver home town gamblers, who have never
even been to "head office"(Las Vegas) anticipate their first inside look at
winning the big one!
The casting company for the movie is currently
