Taste of Crete Launches Traditional Greek Cookie at the Jacob Javits Fancy Food Show in New York City July 10-12

Taste of Crete, a gourmet food company focused on the healthy diet of Crete, introduces a traditional Greek cookie using olive oil and wine.

(PRWEB) July 9, 2005 -- Taste of Crete, a gourmet food company focused on the healthy diet of Crete, introduces Evangelia’s Olive Oil & Wine Cookies, a traditional Greek cookie at the New York Fancy Food Show on July 10-12th.

Awarded Silver in the 2005 International Olive Oils of the World Competition, Taste of Crete gained national recognition for its Protected Designation of Origin extra virgin olive oil from Crete, Greece. Made with extra virgin olive oil and wine, Evangelia’s traditional family recipe does not contain preservatives, eggs or butter, which means no trans fat or cholesterol.

Esther Luongo Psarakis, founder of Taste of Crete explains: “When I married into the Greek culture 17 years ago, my mother-in-law Evangelia shared with me her favorite recipes that had been passed down from generation to generation. These Olive Oil and Wine Cookies were among the first and I still have the original sheet of paper on which I wrote down her instructions. Over the years I have baked thousands of these cookies for my family and friends. I named them Evangelia’s Cookies in her honor”

At tastings and demonstrations she conducts on the benefits of using olive oil in cooking and baking, Esther states, “I am amazed at the reactions. People enjoy the delicate, no-too-sweet flavor. They especially love the fact that there are no eggs or butter used in baking. This is the cookie that people on restricted diets can truly enjoy. I was constantly asked if they were for sale.”

Gourmet stores currently carrying Taste of Crete Extra Virgin Olive Oil have encouraged Esther to package Evangelia’s Olive Oil & Wine Cookies. “With the encouragement of my customers and friends, Taste of Crete’s newest healthy food will make their debut at the New York Fancy Food Show.”
