(PRWEB) March 7, 2005 -- Local Psychiatrist and Author, Dr. Anthony J.
Burlay, will appear at the Catonsville Senior Center, April 19, 2005 at 12:45 pm
to discuss his new book, The Foundation Diet: Your Body Was Designed to Eat,
(Zen-Fusion Publishing, $22.95). With the majority of Baltimore County Library’s
copies checked out, this free event will provide motivation and education for
both current and new dieters from all over the area.
“I am excited about
the opportunity to talk to fellow Baltimore residents about their health and
nutrition,” says Dr. Burlay. Through events such as this, Dr. Burlay is
currently spearheading a new nationwide effort to educate people about the
dangers of obesity. Able to lose and keep off over 50 pounds, Dr. Burlay says he
wants to help those in his hometown to lose their extra weight and save
themselves their share of millions of dollars in obesity-related healthcare
costs. “I wanted to start in Baltimore; I wanted to start with the people
closest to me, and show them that losing weight can be fun, and you can do it
eating great food,” he says.
According to Dr. Burlay, his book is not
just food lists and recipes, but a “practical guide to making permanent changes
in your life, one bite at a time.” The premise of his diet follows what Dr.
Burlay calls “evolutionary guidelines.” “Over millions of years, our body
evolved to thrive on a certain type of diet. We adapted and learned to be
efficient to survive. Today, we associate foods with emotional events, feel
addicted to foods, and even attach a moral component to eating. The Foundation
Diet provides the closest match to the long lost instruction manual for our
metabolism while helping the reader to address psychological issues surrounding
their eating habits,” he says.
The foods in Dr. Burlay’s diet are far
from what one may think when considering “evolutionary guidelines.” Recipes in
the book include Thai Peanut Butter Chicken, an assortment of snacks, desserts
such as Chocolate Macadamia Nut Cheesecake, and seafood recipes to please any
native Baltimorean. Additional recipes are available on the book’s website, www.foundationdiet.com.
Readers are encouraged to buy a
copy of The Foundation Diet from book retailers or online at Amazon.com before
the event. Copies will not be available for sale at the discussion, however Dr.
Burlay will be available for autographs.
The Catonsville Senior Center
is located at 501 N. Rolling Road. Baltimore County seniors who need
transportation to and from the event should call (410)887-0900.
